Running the Super in Mesquite is one of the events I really look forward to each year. Its basically in my backyard so the terrain is what I a used to and the desert really doesn’t bother me much.
The first year I ran it was last year in 2017. I ran it with a friend as his first spartan race and we finished in about 4 hours. It was pretty long but we had fun.
This year I finished in just over 2 hours which was a personal best for me but still not where I need to be if I want to be competitive at any point.
The rope climb was about a half mile in and unfortunately I ripped a lot of skin off my fingers on the way down which hurt like heck the rest of the race. Luckily there was a lot of cold mud so that helped a lot 🙂
I also absolutely loved the barbed wire crawl on this race. The mud was super cool and felt amazing after just running 5 miles or so. You can probably tell from the photos below that I had a pretty good time.
Next year my goal is to finish fast enough to place in the top ten. I don’t really pay attention to the other racers but instead on just improving my time. I am thinking I’ll need to finish in around 45 minutes to his this goal so less than half the time I did it in this year. Here are my photos from the race:
