What Exactly I Do
Doing everything makes you a jack of all trades, master of none.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, my best skill set is SEO. So, it should come as no surprise that I’m a SEO and website development expert here in Buffalo, New York. I’ve been perfecting my skills for 12 years now, and I’m proud to have many satisfied clients who are getting value for their money as their websites rise in the the major search engines, including Google. But, a good SEO specialist’s job doesn’t stop there. I also need to help you sustain your website rankings. That’s equally important.
As I mentioned, I focus just on high-quality SEO. (So, if you need another marketing or programming discipline, like building an app or managing an email marketing campaign, I can point you in the direction of some of some good folks in my business network.)

My early years and how I got started.
Programming comes natural for me; it always has. I was lucky enough to be exposed to programming when I was in grade school. We had been living up North in Washington State and the humidity was really starting to do a number on my health. So, my parents moved me and my brothers to the small (very arid) town of Golden Valley, Arizona, about 2 hours from Las Vegas and 30 minutes or more one way to Kingman, AZ. I recovered and when it was time for us to start attending school, my parents decided to forgo the commute to Kingman (where the closest school was) and home school us instead.
My parent’s love for programming showed when they taught us GW Basic and other programming languages when we were 10 and 11. By the age of 12, I was programming on my own. I even wrote my own computer program – a simple calculator – that year. I had become a full-fledged nerd. (Thanks to shows like The Big Bang Theory, that’s considered a very good thing now!)
Where my love of being a nerd came from.
In my teens, my programming skills advanced even more. I was studying every computer game I could get my hands on. I “opened up” the back end code, and became proficient in using command prompts, file directories, and later web interfaces, when I customized my friends’ MySpace pages much to their delight. I was flexing my programming muscles even more when I started to build websites and figure out how to market them. Google had started to rank websites – which affected which websites people were being referred to – and I was insistent on figuring out how to reach the top.
In 2007, I opened what would later be called Joseph Stevenson (a Buffalo, New York SEO Firm), and started working hard to get my clients; sites to the top of the search engines ranking. I also was determined that their money be well spent, that they’d get a good return on their investment. This overarching goal has stayed with me these last 12 years as I’ve built my firm’s reputation, and developed a Buffalo SEO process that reaps benefits over time.
I believe business should be earned, not expected.
Of course, we all want to work with reputable firms who know what they’re doing and who are of the highest integrity. In looking at some of the other SEO firms in Buffalo, unfortunately, this is not always the case. Trust must not be expected; it must be earned. Some of the other Buffalo SEO companies in the area are engaging in a practice you’ll want to be aware of as part of your selection process… They are requiring that business owners in Buffalo sign a long-term SEO contract and then they are sub-contracting the work out to another firms that can do the work cheaper, but probably not as well. They end up coordinating your work instead of orchestrating it.
Instead, I don’t take on a client unless I know I’ll have the time to lay the necessary groundwork, and consistently do the hard work necessary to get results. I don’t believe you’ll find a better SEO firm than Joseph Stevenson in the Buffalo area.
If you don’t do things right, don’t do them at all.
Some of the other SEO firms in Buffalo try to get through improving your website and doing the SEO as fast as possible so they can turn around and get more fees from even newer clients. They either really don’t understand what works or they are trying to take shortcuts with your work – and the search engines. They adopt what I call the “bulk process” of SEO, which means that they will flood the web with lots and lots of copy and back links and then look for the (albeit temporary) rankings increase to “prove” their value early on.
I take a quality-over-quantity approach and do things right the first time. I don’t rush things. Instead, I execute a time-proven SEO strategy, using the three steps below.
Step 1 – Assess and improve your current site – via your code, content, and sales funnel.
Step 2 – Create and post new high-quality content on and off your site to get as many mentions and pick ups as possible, thus getting your site indexed and shared more by the search engines.
Step 3 – Repeat #2 over and over – to sustain the top rankings for the keywords you want to dominate.
This process takes some time, and works every time. (Any SEO firm in Buffalo that tries to tell you they can do it faster or cheaper does not have the long-term success of your company in mind.)
